Crazy Crazy Night

Is it just me, or is it the group that promotes crazy nights out. Somehow it seems to hint that I'm the devil's advocate, or so my friends tend to put it. Joan's received the keys to her new shiny Mazda 5 last week. Last night, we went for more than just a spin. We went for... Supper. Super yummy mee sua at Kembangan.

After supper, we went for a ride along Geylang, looking at err... Night life. Okay, prostitutes to be honest. All we saw were old and ugly ones. From Geylang, we went to Changi - to look at transvestites. You must be thinking what the hell is wrong with us, from prostitutes to ah guas. Seems that not many of them were around on a Wednesday night, so we didn't exactly get to see the drop-dead gorgeous ones that would put many women to shame.

OCH was a stone's throw away from Changi Village, so after some discussion we drove up without the slightest clue that we would actually tour the compound at night - with me as the tour guide, no less! On our first attempt to enter the compound with a Malay family, Joan and Wei Ying were too brave to proceed. It seems that my group didn't feel comfortable with the family. I finally managed to get Ling Yang and Wilson to follow the group but we didn't go beyond the wards on the 3rd Level.

Look Behind

Re-Introducing OCH @ Night

We headed back to the car, and noticed a group of youngsters who seemed keen to explore the compound. They had a torch but not much guts, so Bean swiftly rose to the challenge of taking them on a tour around OCH! Joan and Wei Ying finally joined us, so our group of 10 explored the place. There wasn't much to see since it was so dark, so we went from level to level before climbing up the ladder to the roof access. The view was still as good, even at night.

Bean & LY On Da Roof

Mei Yi & Bean

Notice how the full moon adds to the aura of spookiness. It would have been a perfect setting for a haunting, if our group wasn't that big. Mei Yi was the only girl (and more of a man than the others) in the other group that we had invited to join our tour. She's gutsy, period. Much of OCH was wet due to rain, and the roof was quite flooded, which made climbing down kinda dangerous. Fortunately there were no mishaps - for us at least.

No Longer In Service

Remember this elevator? Apparently a joker fell into the elevator shaft and injured his leg. I honestly have no idea how someone could have done such an intelligent action - if he tore down the elevator door, I guess that he asked for it?

The SCDF had extracted the fallen guy when we descended down the flight of stairs to the ground level. Since OCH was state property, the police had to be called in following an injury in the compound. We didn't want to be involved, so we hastily took a group picture before leaving the place.

Ambulance Leaving

Crazy Group @ 0531

That wasn't the end to my evening. After parting ways, Wilson came over my place. We went for supper and rendezvous-ed with Yvonne before returning to my place for a session of knocked-out drinking. Ah, life. Not much longer to a new phase now.

All pictures except No Longer In Service was taken using Wilson's Nokia N73

Celestial Fragrances

I cannot stress more on how a certain scent can send me into a euphoric trance. The answer my friends, is Angel. Introduced in 1992, Angel charmed its way into the hearts of millions and became among the top 5 fragrances in the U.S.

Shooting Star - Available in 25ml and 50ml

Pedestal for Shooting Star

Its profile describes its scent as a blend of citrus, patchouli, peach, sandal, vanilla, and melon. I can't sniff that though. To me, it's part sensual, part alluring, and completely seductive. Sweet sins.

Star Collection - Available in 75ml

Swarovski Star Collection - Available in 400ml
(For the filthy rich, or the addicts)

Rising Star - Available in 100ml

Besides the main Angel products, Thierry Mugler has also released several limited edition collectibles as well as a spin-off series based on Angel.

Angel Luck Touch Pendant

Solid perfume, literally. Gotta be feelin' heavenly carrying the fragrance wherever one goes. Simply tantalising.

Angel Forever - (Limited Edition) 5ml

Fetish Star - (Limited Edition) 5ml

Holy Star - (Limited Edition) 5ml

Jewel Star - (Limited Edition) 5ml

Once Upon A Star - (Limited Edition) 5ml

Following Angel's celebrated success, Thierry Mugler launched the Garden of Stars series in 2005. Never tried or tested the scent before, but I think that it retains the essence of Angel, with an added dash of unique flavour.

Angel Lily                     Angel Peony

Angel Violet                     Angel La Rose

So there you go, that's my all-time favourite fragrance. I'm contemplating getting myself one, or perhaps a more masculine A*Men, which is Angel for men. But for now, this is kinda tempting me.

Angel Candle!

Imagine having the scent of Angel in my own room. I am sooo thrilled at that aspect, but this luxury doesn't come cheap. $12/piece to be exact. I don't think a piece can last longer than an evening. Someone slap me please, before I start burning my money.

Estee's Birthdayyy

The after-effects of excessive drinking is never pleasant. Especially when you have been drinking for 2 nights in a row. I can't remember all the details, but I went pubbing with Benjamin Esther, Wilson, and Yvonee on Friday night. After that, as routine followed we headed to MOS to club till they closed.

Sleep.

Woke up, went for a casual date with Christie. Had a fabulous dinner at my old working place - Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant. It was a bit of a rush to get to Great World City for our movie that aired in 10 minutes. At that time, with the kind of traffic on the roads, it was virtually impossible. But 'fortunately', GV's commercials take up about 10 minutes or more, so we missed only the first 5 minutes of the show.

Blades of Glory was a crappy but entertaining comedy. And I don't write movie reviews, so ta-dah. After the movie I intended to have ice-cream at Swensen's. There was a queue, which was alright, but the weather friggin' had me sweating it out so I changed my mind. Venue was changed to the 24 hour cafe @ Cineleisure. My life seems to be filled with indulgences of late (or has it been this way all the while?).

Christie is quite mature for her age, which did change my perception of younger girls quite a bit. She's good at carrying herself, which isn't something many young girls can at her age. So I must say that I did enjoy her company. After dessert we went to meet Wilson before heading down to Versus'. I didn't really intend to go after midnight, but it just happened that way, and we missed the cake-cutting for Esther.

Chug chug chug, everyone was in a high and spirited mood. Martell, Chivas, Red Wine, Lamborghini *chug chug chug* Down Esther went. And, I did take some naughty pics of Esther with her head in the plastic bag, but for the sake of her image I shan't post them up =P

Pics for the night:

Christie & Bean

Bean & Wilson

Bean & Cassan

Angela & Bean

Gemelle & Bean

The results of drinking in 2 consecutive nights show in my eyes (or eyebags).

Chinese Things

Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End is fantastic. For 168 minutes, I didn't rest entirely against the comfy seat one bit. Like a fervent little puppy, I remained excited throughout the movie, savouring every single second of the film. And the best of all, the movie was free! *heh heh*

About 15 minutes into the movie, the audio for the dialogue didn't function. That didn't last more than 45 seconds, but nevertheless GV gave all the movie-goers a complimentary ticket. How generous can that be? So now I've got 3 complimentary passes, and a brain-cracking time to decide on which movies to catch.

Before you read on, don't worry - there are no PoTC spoilers in this post. Johnny Depp didn't fail to deliver, as always. I enjoyed every scene that had him in it. Chow Yun Fatt portrayed the role of the Chinese pirate spectacularly. Who else could fill the role of Sao Feng if not him? (Oh I'm certain that Zhou Jie Lun is still light years away from Chow's level *sniggers*) In short, Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End is excellent. The only shortcoming (in my opinion) is its ooh-so-predictable ending. I saw it coming from a mile away.

My review today is based not on the movie, but a mandarin pop album, Play.

S.H.E - Play

Honestly I've never had much love for S.H.E (maybe except a lil for Hebe Tian) and their blatant lack of originality (Read: plagiarism). Which other pop act has sung 25 cover songs? Despite their apparent lack of song-writing talent, they have sung several heart wrenching songs that could make/break a heart.

Play marks the start of their journey to writing their own songs. Selina and Ella penned 老婆, while Hebe came out with 说你爱我 all by herself. It's high time they started on making their own music.

Track Listing
1. 中国话
2. 谢谢你的温柔
3. 听袁惟仁弹吉他
4. 五月天
5. 藉口
6. BOOM
7. 再别康桥
8. 伦敦大桥垮下来
9. 说你爱我
10. 好心情 Just Be Yourself
11. 老婆
Brief review on individual songs:

Pardon my sub-par command of Chinese if I grasp the essence of the song incorrectly.
1. 中国话
A song that is filled with Chinese tongue twisters, or a collection of tongue twisters that is put together as a song? The crux of the lyrics can be described using two word. Chinese propaganda. Nice.

2. 谢谢你的温柔
Another song that speaks my feelings. The chorus sung by Fahrenheit sounds so familiar. "不知道,不明了,不想要,为什麼,我的心。 明明是想靠近,却孤单到黎明。" Part of the song is from 五月天's 温柔.

3. 听袁惟仁弹吉他
This song raps the tale of a shy guy who lives near the mountains. It follows into tell the guy's love (for music), and the difficulty of being heard. Later it relates to the difficulties that S.H.E have faced throughout their career.

4. 五月天
Spending the days of May on the beach, holding hands and taking on the world as it passes day by day. Isn't life beautiful like this? This is one of my favourite songs on the album. It sounds happy and... So full of hope.

5. 藉口
This rap-track is a tribute to 周杰论, and is made up of many other Jay's songs put together brilliantly. You may recognise the lyrics/titles from other songs like: 最后的战役,简单爱,开不了口,安静,斗牛,龙卷风,情话,千里之外,东风破,听妈妈的话,借口,分裂,轨迹,飘移,暗号,回到过去,发如雪,双刀,断了的弦,黑色幽默,外婆,爱情悬崖. Interesting!

6. BOOM
Indian-style song that sounds somewhat similar to Tata Young's Dhoom Dhoom.

7. 再别康桥
The song is set the old city of Cambridge. As the lady in cheongsam walks down the ally, she sees lots of things, which the song tells. This is a beautiful song with really narrative lyrics.

8. 伦敦大桥垮下来
S.H.E's playful rendition of London Bridge Is Falling Down. The lyrics, again tell a meaningful story (however, with a trashy poppy tune).

9. 说你爱我
Does the rain bring back certain memories to you? If it hurts, why don't people just drop it and let go? Because, this is love. Another nice, meaningful song.

10. 好心情 Just Be Yourself
The inner thoughts of a strong and free person. Only when you are yourself can you enjoy the world the way it is. Do you feel happy and free like the song? Written by 陶喆.

11. 老婆
S.H.E's declaration of appreciation and gratitude to each other. Though the song is titled Wife, the lyrics seem to hint that they are referring to each other as their wives.
for this album!

My UnHealthy Lifestyle

Saturday, May 19 0030 hours

Going for supper with Mel and Wei.

Saturday, May 19 0430 hours

Just finished supper, on the way home. Bathed and going to bed immediately. Highly probable that I will be late for tomorrow's date.

Saturday, May 19 1330 hours

Climbed out of bed. I so knew that I'd be late. Oh well...

Saturday, May 19 1530 hours

Lunch @ Aji-Sen on me for making Nini wait an hour. I'm no princess and I don't like making people wait for me. My bad. Movie starts at 1610.

Saturday, May 19 1845 hours

My 2nd screening of Spiderman 3 has ended, I still love it. Nini's going for her friend's birthday dinner, might be going to club with her friends later. For now, I'm joining Sharon for a thriller *covers eyes*

Saturday, May 19 1920 hours

Ran into Wenwee at Cineleisure. From a movie at The Cathay, my 2nd movie for the day took me to the other Cathay (Cineleisure) where I finally met Wenwee after so long. Complimentary drinks and popcorn from her =P

Got acquainted with Sharon's colleague, whom was intially introduced to me as her cousin. That girl just can't stop fooling me.

Saturday, May 19 2100 hours

Gawd, no more Thrillers/Horror Flicks for me. Caught the sequal to 28 Days Later, aptly titled 28 Weeks Later. It's not as hardcore (as The Hills Have Eyes), which was a great relief to me.

Sharon asked me along to St. James Power Station, where she'll be partying at with her friends. Feeling kinda tired, but I still went along with her plans. Nini may be joining me later with her friends.

Went to play some KOF while Sharon went home to get changed. Met Zong Hui there. And, surprise surprise. While having my late dinner, I saw my secondary class' resident gay. With his gay partner, no less. I must say that his taste is going down the hill. His partner is not one bit attractive, and that makes them somewhat compatible!

Saturday, May 19 2345 hours

Reached St. James Power Station. Being my first visit there, I was kinda lost but fortunately Sharon came to get me. She has got membership to the place and it sure feels good to jump the main queue. Got acquainted with her friends, who are all older than me. When it comes to partying age certainly isn't an issue.

Power House was broadcasting the match between Chelsea and Manchester United, which was quite boring since I didn't know her friends too well so it was awkward initially having to stand around. St. James' isn't exactly my kinda place, 'cos all of the other 8 rooms have a minimum age requirement of 23 for males. Whatever, okay?

Since I didn't get to check the other rooms out, I can't share the experience here. You can however still learn about it on St. James Power Station's website.

Sunday, May 20 0030 hours

Chelsea lifts the FA Cup. Lights, Music, Party time! Despite me being the youngest, the ladies were very receptive to me, often offering me drinks (oh I DEFINITELY had enough to drink), chatting, and dancing. New acquaintances probably mean more frequent visits to clubs. That reminds me of Esther's birthday celebration next Saturday. Tsk, I've been clubbing consecutively every week this month.

Sunday, May 20 0430 hours

Supper with Sharon at The Station Kitchen. The dumplings that I had are good! Finally this sums up the late nights of the week.

Glad to have known Sharon, who has inevitably brought much colour to my life. Though I don't know who she exactly is, I think that what little I know of her will suffice. Clichéd, but life is unpredictable and you never know how things are gonna turn out.

This might be the last for a long time to come before I next meet her. She's hot and wild, perhaps too wild for me to handle. It's better to be sadder but wiser. It's difficult to trust when I don't even know her, metaphorically.

Minutes To Midnight

Thanks to the generosity of Mr. X, I have reviewed Linkin Park's new album, Minutes To Midnight. Many people commented that this album sucks and it is totally un-Linkin Park. Being neither a fan nor cynic, here's my neutral opinion of the album.

Personally I feel that Minutes To Midnight is toned down (and more diverse) compared to their previous two albums. The band is experimenting with more genres, infusing more rapcore and hip-hop into the songs this time 'round. Fans who loved their old Nu-Metal sound might feel disappointed with this album as only a handful of songs contain the same screamo/rapcore content found in their previous albums.

Some fans may trash this, while others would applaud Linkin Park's versatility. JY who has never liked their songs before actually took a liking to their current album. That saying, people who used to dislike their music may actually find their new sound palatable.

In terms of sound, as mentioned earlier on, only four tracks retain their familiar Nu-Metal sound, namely Given Up, What I've Done (I'm sure you've heard this before), No More Sorrow and In Pieces. And even some of these tracks contain the elements that you'll find in songs by Atreyu or Saosin.

Lyrics-wise, they are somewhat deeper, treading along the lines of politics and complicated feelings. A lot of the lyrics reflect on the contradictions and complications between two estranged people. StrangelySomehow it feels oh-so-familiar.

Mike Shinoda is on lead vocals for In Between, rather than doing his usual supporting rap. He also does solo guitar segments on two songs, which is rare till now.

Track Listing:
1. "Wake" – 1:41
2. "Given Up" – 3:09
3. "Leave Out All the Rest" – 3:29
4. "Bleed It Out" – 2:44
5. "Shadow of the Day" – 4:50
6. "What I've Done" – 3:25
7. "Hands Held High" – 3:53
8. "No More Sorrow" – 3:42
9. "Valentine's Day" – 3:17
10. "In Between" – 3:17
11. "In Pieces" – 3:38
12. "The Little Things Give You Away" – 6:23
Brief review on individual songs:
1. Wake
Instrumental intro which sounds alike to Keane's The Iron Sea.

2. Given Up
Angst-filled song that is somewhat alike to the sounds of a toned-down Atreyu. In the song, emotions of feeling trapped, sick, suffocated, and hopeless resonate throughout. Chester screams for help and deliverance from misery.

3. Leave Out The Rest
This song is about your fears as I was missing (from you). You were the only one who cared, yet you concealed your hurt feelings from me. Forget the wrongs when I'm gone, as I can't hide my hurt the way that you could. A slow, but forgettable song at best.

4. Bleed It Out
Fort Minor style. Ever felt that you had to dig deep into your would in order to get rid of the bad blood? "I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away"

5. Shadow Of The Day
A slow song that reminds me of Busted's When The Day Turns Into Night. This one's about complicated relations. Sometimes leavin' or sayin goodbye is the best way out. I won't turn and watch you walk away.

6. What I've Done
This is so Linkin Park. Everyone has probably heard of this song at least once already. The story is 'bout being filled with remorse from the lies told and running away. No one else knows 'bout the truth, but he has to face himself and the pains of the mistakes that he made.

7. Hands Held High
Shinoda raps on politics, war, and humanity ala Fort Minor-style.

8. No More Sorrow
I hear the sounds of Slayer. In this Nu-Metal song, you will hear angst and feel vengeance. Confrontation and punishment seem to be the bottomline.

9. Valentine's Day
A slow rock telling the tale of a lost lover, walking in cold. The feelings of loneliness, and sapping strength leading to a lost direction can be recognised in a dying relationship. Some people never know how it is like being alone until their partner have been taken away.

10. In Between
Another slow but deep song which touches on pride, promises, lost trust, lies and how the truth gets in the way. Are you guilty of this?

11. In Pieces
An upbeat tempo that accompanies Chester's angst, screaming an ultimatum of leaving someone who is fickle-minded.
"Telling me to go
But hands beg me to stay
Your lips say that you love
Your eyes say that you hate"
What would you do? Make a clean cut, or constantly live in regrets?

12. The Little Things Give You Away
Linkin Park ends their album with a slow song on dealing with someone who wants nothing but respect. There's a hint of fading and eroded hopes, with the 2nd party revealing his true self eventually. It's deep, and I can't grasp the feel totally.
Most hard rock/emo/screamo albums have only one or two slow songs, but on Minutes To Midnight, it is evident that Linkin Park is trying to establish itself as a mature band. I don't know how successful this will be, as most songs take some time to grow on the public. I've listened to this album about four times now, and at present my top 3 favourite tracks are Leave Out The Rest, What I've Done and Valentine's Day.

If you would like to review the songs as well, feel free to ask me *winks*

Bean's Elementary Knowledge on White Balance

First off, I'd like to share some pictures that I've taken recently. First to be featured is my frisky little baby.

Under my Quilt Cover

Blank Look

Working in town equates a busy and hectic life, starting from morning till the evening. Little did I notice that there are lots of interesting subjects and backdrops to be captured on film.

One Cloudy Day

Went to Raffles Country Club yesterday evening for Jerry's wedding dinner's food tasting session. The food was good but not fantastic. The scenery there however, is pretty good. Due to the direction of the setting sun, some scenic shots were not possible. Given my amateurish skills, I didn't make the most of what I could. Before I start on White Balance, here are some of my macro shots:

Ring of Flowers

Pollination in the Works

Orchid Orchid

I don't have much experience on macro photography, but I am pretty satisfied with my shot on the Orchid.

On to White Balance, what exactly is it for? In my own words, white balance is the setting/adjustment to the temperature of the light source. Blue lighting tend to have a warmer temperature while red lighting are of a cooler temperature, which is the direct opposite of our common interpretation of heat. For a more detailed explanation, click here.

Below are three shots taken at close intervals under the exact situation, but using different white balances. Let's see how the white balance can affect the outcome of a picture.

Incandescent White Balance

Florescent White Balance

Cloudy White Balance

One composition and three different white balances, does it give you the feel that the pictures were taken at different times of the day?

As you can see, selecting the right white balance will greatly determine how your picture appears. If you're uncertain, it's best to experiment taking the same picture using different white balances before deciding on which balance provides a more accurate colour. I usually practise this method since I'm relatively new to photography.

Before you go, do take a look at my new album. Hope that my 2-cents' worth on white balance has given you a new insight to basic photography!

My Story

Every rose has its thorn

Even something seemingly solid can crack beneath your feet...

When you reach the peak, who is there to share your joy?

One-sided desires will get you nowhere

There are some memories that no matter how you try, can never be forgotten...

Sometimes amidst staring into the nothingness, I forget who I have been

So it's true that a candle burns its brightest before it goes out

I've been running from place to place...

I can't keep running away – they will catch up some day

In times of darkness, have faith that light will prevail

Slowly but patiently, I will weave my own destiny

Someday, I will meet the one

There's someone out there for everyone...

All Good Things (Come To An End)

On my own I feel no vacillation. It's either something, or nothing. Like a 1, or a 0, buddy. But girl, why is it that when you come to my mind, I can't fix myself on anything? What is it that keeps me returning to a specter of what we once were? Why am I still bound to my stupid and foolhardy concept of 'You and Me'?

The way I feel, you don't seem to care. Honestly it feels as though you only talk to me when you're bored, or when you want care/attention. Then and again, there are so many people that you can get it from anyway. I never took the initiative to talk to you about it, because I am afterall, no one to you no more. I don't know how you feel. I don't know what you want. I feel dispensable. Of course, this is but just my one-sided thoughts.

The last time I said goodbye to someone, I made sure that it went from 'flames to dust'. I don't know what is with me, or why I still think 'bout you, and no one else. I feel the calling for the time to say goodbye. This time baby, it's for real. If you feel that there's anything worth saving, call out my name before I stray too far beyond return.

The dogs were barking at the new moon
Whistling a new tune
Hoping it would come soon so that they could die

Rawbean Has A Little Lamb

Yeah, I've got a little bitclamb, and it sure has an attitude.

Wad'cha Staring At?

Huh???                                               Feed Me

Bailey went for his grooming in the afternoon, and he looks so damn adorable now. I get to spend one more day with him this week =P No matter how convenient it is living nearer to my workplace, I still do miss home every now and then. And above all, I miss you.

Am I easily contented, or is everything just going the way that I've looked forward to? It feels as though there isn't much else that can make me happier. Except you.
